Amazon Small and Light replacement: the under-$10 FBA rates
Amazon's Small and Light program is gone. In its place, every FBA item priced under $10 gets lower fulfillment fees on its own: no enrollment, no special size limits, normal delivery speed. Here are the 2026 rates next to the regular ones, and why a product priced at $9.99 can leave you more per unit than the same product at $10.99.
What replaced Small and Light
- Amazon ended the US Small and Light program in 2023. Its job, cheaper fulfillment for cheap items, moved into the regular FBA rate card.
- FBA fees now come in three price bands: under $10, $10 to $50 and over $50. An item priced at exactly $10.00 pays the $10-$50 rate.
- The under-$10 rates apply automatically to any size tier: you don't sign up, and the item keeps its usual Prime delivery promise.
2026 rates: under $10 against $10-$50
Amazon's 2026 US fulfillment fees for most products from January 15 (non-peak), before the 3.5% fuel and logistics surcharge. From October 15 to January 14 the peak rates are higher; the FBA fee calculator shows both.

The $9.99 question
Under $10, two fees can drop at once: the FBA fee, and in some categories the referral fee (Beauty, Health and Personal Care charges 8% at $10 or less and 15% above). Worked out with the same fee tables, September 2026, surcharge included:
| Product | Price | Referral fee | FBA fee | You keep |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Lip balm 3-pack4 × 3 × 0.75 in, 2 oz · Beauty, Health and Personal Care | $9.99 | $0.80 | $2.58small standard | $6.61 |
| $10.99 | $1.65 | $3.54small standard | $5.80 | |
| Silicone spatula12 × 2.5 × 1 in, 5 oz · Home and Kitchen | $9.99 | $1.50 | $3.24large standard | $5.25 |
| $10.99 | $1.65 | $4.09large standard | $5.25 |
The lip balm 3-pack keeps $6.61 at $9.99 and $5.80 at $10.99: a dollar off the price leaves $0.81 more per unit, before even counting the extra sales a lower price brings. The silicone spatula keeps $5.25 at $9.99 against $5.25 at $10.99: the dollar off is paid for by lower fees. Both still have to pay for the product itself and its freight: the FBA profit calculator takes those in.
Should you price under $10?
- Check what you keep at both prices with your own size and category: the FBA fee calculator and the referral fee calculator.
- Watch the edge: $9.99 is under $10; $10.00 is not.
- Low-price items run on thin margins, so the low-inventory-level fee, returns and ads take a bigger share: see how to calculate your real Amazon profit.
Questions
Do I need to enroll products?
No. Any FBA item with a price under $10 gets the lower rates; when you raise the price to $10 or more, the regular rates apply.
Which price counts?
The price the item sells for. If it sells under $10 only during a sale, only those orders get the lower fee: check your settlement report's fee lines to see what each order actually paid.
Can MyProfit check what I paid?
Yes: it reads every FBA fee from your settlement reports, compares it with what your size and price should cost, and lists the products that were charged more. See the FBA fee overcharge check.
