What to watch when you price
- The $1.80 closing fee weighs most on cheap items. A $4.99 item pays $0.75 + $1.80 = $2.55, 51% of the price.
- No price bands: every price pays 15%, so the fee moves with the price and there is no price edge to aim under.
- Shipping counts. The fee is on the total the buyer pays, so shipping and gift wrap the buyer pays on a merchant-fulfilled order are charged at this category's rate too. Sales tax isn't.
When you refund a buyer
Amazon gives back the referral fee minus its refund administration fee, the lesser of $5.00 or 20% of the referral fee. On a $24.99 Media - Books, DVD, Music, Software, Video sale, the $3.75 referral fee comes back as $3.00.
