Amazon's refund administration fee, explained

When you refund an Amazon order, Amazon gives back the referral fee it took on the sale, minus a refund administration fee: the lesser of $5.00 or 20% of that referral fee. Here's what that leaves you paying on a refund, and where to find it in your payout.

Example: a $24.99 kitchen item $0.75

refund administration fee

Referral fee on the sale$3.75
Refund administration fee kept by Amazon$-0.75
Referral fee given back to you$3.00

20% of the referral fee, under the $5.00 cap.

What a refund costs you

Where it shows in your settlement report

A refund is its own set of lines in the payout: the item price taken back from you, the referral fee given back (amount description Commission, a positive amount) and the refund administration fee (RefundCommission, a negative amount). The settlement report guide walks through a refund line by line, and the settlement report analyzer adds up yours.
