Sales by state and nexus
Your sales per state against each state's economic nexus threshold.
Once your sales into a state pass its economic nexus threshold, that state may expect you to register and collect sales tax on your own sales. Sales by state puts your sales next to each state's threshold.
Periods and status
Pick This year so far, Last year or Last 12 months. Each state shows your sales and transactions against its threshold and a status: Over, Approaching (80% or more), under, or no sales tax. A state whose rules count marketplace sales says so, and some states are passed on Amazon sales alone.
Thresholds come from the Sales Tax Institute's economic nexus guide; the page shows the date it was last updated.
What counts as a sale here
Amazon US orders by ship-to state: item price × quantity ordered, plus shipping, less promotions, before tax. Cancelled orders are left out. That's the measure states use, so it's a little higher than the Overview's sales, which count shipped units only.
The first time you open the page, MyProfit adds up your orders by state from January of last year. It takes a few minutes for a large catalogue, and keeps itself up to date after that.
Adding your other sales channels
Thresholds count all your sales into a state, not just Amazon's. Add the rest one of two ways:
- Upload an order file. From Shopify: Orders → Export → All orders, as CSV. From anywhere else: download the template (date, state, amount, orders, country) and fill it in. MyProfit keeps monthly totals per state only, never buyer names or addresses, and uploading the same months again replaces them. The × next to a channel removes it.
- Type in direct sales per state for a calendar year.
Channels count differently: direct sales (your own site, Shopify, WooCommerce) count in every state. Other marketplaces (eBay, Walmart, Etsy) count only in states that count marketplace sales toward your threshold, just like Amazon.
This is a guide, not tax advice. Check the state's own rules or ask your accountant before you register.
